NBA tips for October 29-30

NBA basketball has finally tipped-off for another rollercoaster season of highlight reel dunks, brilliant blocks and game winning buzzer-beaters.

Multiple fixtures are played almost every night in America’s glamourous elite league so, in light of this quality action, Coral basketball writers have picked out some top NBA tips for the October 29-30 action…

Timberloves odds for 199-209 match total points in Kings duel

Minnesota Timberwolves opened their campaign with a disappointing loss to Memphis Grizzlies and will be out to bite Dave Joerger’s Sacramento Kings.

Many fans’ pick to fight for third spot in the Western Conference, Tom Thibodeau’s Timberwolves possesses a young, dynamic roster brimming with talent ready to breakout.

Meanwhile, Sacramento won on the road in their curtain raiser against Phoenix Suns – clearly displaying their excellent scoring potential with Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins heading the side’s offence.

The team’s combined average score last term was 209, but expect this to dip in this fixture, as Thibodeau looks to bring his trademark tight defence into the encounter that will pitch big men Karl-Anthony Towns and Cousins against one another. Coral has the franchises 12/5 to score between 199-209 points tonight, in a tight affair but rewarding Timberwolves odds.

Boston Celtics bets to feel Hornets’ sting

Boston Celtics had one of the best offseasons in the NBA by adding Al Horford, bringing in the calm efficiency of the skilful Dominican.

His impact has been felt immediately, allowing for great spacing on the parquet as the opposition have to respect his three-point shooting and assist making ability (dropping 11 dimes in two games thus far).

Still struggling with rebounding, Hornets look set to sting in our Celtics bets.

However, a problem it did not address, and something the Charlotte Hornets will look to target, is rebounding.

Rebounds mean second chance baskets, and Boston are the second worst in the league at it. With someone like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist currently firing on all cylinders this season, averaging 9.5 rebounds per game, Brad Stevens’ Celtics should be worried.

With two wins from each of their fresh campaign fixtures and Kidd-Gilchrist dominating the glass, expect Charlotte to come out on top in North Carolina and cover their -3.5 handicap at a generous 7/4.

Pelicans poised for points

Anthony Davis is on an one man mission to drag these New Orleans Pelicans to the playoffs. Scoring 50 in his first game this term and following it up with another monster effort against Golden State Warriors, netting 45 points – San Antonio Spurs will have to be aware.

The stage is set for a high scoring affair between San Antonio and New Orleans.

The stage is set for a high scoring affair between San Antonio and New Orleans.

However, Gregg Popovich’s Spurs haven’t had a bad start to the season themselves. In their season opener, San Antonio shocked the NBA with a win over Golden State, a now super-team with the addition of Kevin Durant. It wasn’t just a victory either, it was done in true Popovich style, outscoring Dubs by 29 in Oakland.

The precedent for a high scoring clash is clear to see and, with the sides averaging a scoring total of 223.5 this term, 7/2 on the teams recording a result over 220.5 looks well worth a punt.

Bulls bolstered by Celtics triumph

Dwyane Wade’s 14th season opener couldn’t have gone any better. Returning to his hometown, many doubted Chicago Bulls and cited their lack of shooting as a real hindrance to their playoff potential.

Wade has fitted straight into Chicago's team and provides unsuspected shooting.

Wade has fitted straight into Chicago’s team and provides unsuspected shooting.

However, Wade has clearly been working on his shooting mechanics and has developed a killer three-point shot.

The three-time NBA champion drained just seven three pointers in the entirety of last season. However, on his first run out at the United Center he sunk four of six attempts, raining a barrage of destruction upon the unsuspecting Celtics – who are eyeing the Eastern Conference’s second seed.

The Dynamic threesome of Jimmy Butler, Rajon Rondo and Wade now looks a formidable force in the East, especially with Indiana Pacers coming to town.

Pacers lost to Brooklyn Nets last time out, a team forecast to be the worst in NBA history.

Fred Hoiberg’s Bulls come into the clash confident and are a value bet at 17/10 to cover their -7.5 handicap.

King James’ Cavaliers to conquer Magic

Reigning NBA champions Cleveland Cavaliers remain unbeaten despite two testing season openers, the last of which was a closely fought trip to Canada against Toronto Raptors.

LeBron James reigning NBA champions are unbeaten this season.

Orlando Magic haven’t beaten Cavs in 14 attempts, combine this with the fact Cleveland defeated Orlando by an average of 21 points last term, and a routine win looks likely for LeBron James’ Wine and Gold.

Magic are off to a terrible defensive start this term, allowing a opponents to shoot 50 per cent from the field and struggle on the road, winning just 12 of 42 away games since 2014.

Expect Cleveland to dispatch Frank Vogel’s outfit with ease at 13/8 with a -15.5 handicap.
