Bet of the day: Rainbow Rebel worth a Ponterfract punt

Jamie Clark, Sports Editor | October 3, 2016

Coral’s bet of the day

  • Rainbow Rebel looking for five-timer entering 1m class 3 handicap
  • Mark Johnston gelding carries 4lb less than when last successful
  • Selection is versatile as regards ground

Rainbow Rebel odds worth a Pontefract punt

Trainer Mark Johnston has a couple of entrants in the 1m handicap at 15:00, but Ranibow Rebel is the pick.

Trainer Mark Johnston has a couple of entrants in the 1m handicap at 15:00, but Rainbow Rebel is the pick.

Mark Johnston’s Rainbow Rebel can make the step up into class 3 company all in his stride with victory in the 1m handicap at Pontefract on Monday (15:00).

This three-year-old gelding comes into this contest with four victories on the bounce, so that terrific form is reason enough to make him the subject of Coral’s bet of the day for October 3rd.

Read on as we reveal other reasons why Rainbow Rebel looks the real deal to perform at Pontefract…

Less in the saddlebags for step up

Getting into this race with 9st 2lb on board, Rainbow Rebel is 4lb lighter than when last successful and that suggests he may have got in lightly.

Jockey Joe Fanning knows how to get the best out of the selection.

Jockey Joe Fanning knows how to get the best out of the selection.

Joe Fanning once again partners the selection, and he has ridden five of handler Johnston’s 10 winners in the past fortnight. The jockey gets the best tune out of Rainbow Rebel and that is another plus.

With wins on heavy, soft and firm ground, he is versatile when it comes to going and that is handy when taking into account the rain there’s been over the weekend.

Blair House has a lot to prove

Overnight race favourite Blair House has never won above a class 5 contest and flopped big time when last of 10 finishers from a dozen runners in the Cambridge Handicap at Newmarket in July.

The form of that is persuasive with Blair House a full 15 1/2 lengths behind the winner, Fawaareq, and it counts as a huge black mark against siding with Charlie Appleby’s Godolphin owned colt.

Unable to live up to a rating of 90, Blair House is worth taking on and Rainbow Rebel ticks all the boxes to do just that.
