  • Title holder Djokovic has won four of them
  • Wawrinka has already gone the distance this US Open

Djokovic v Wawrinka match 5/2 to go to 5 sets

In the last Grand Slam of 2016 at the US Open, Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka are the two left to battle it out in the men’s singles final on Sunday evening – after the likes of Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic exited early.

It is from this showdown that Coral have picked out our latest bet of the day, with odds of 5/2 available on the match going to five sets.

Djokovic and Wawrinka certainly know each other well, having faced off 25 times before.

Djokovic and Wawrinka have faced each other 25 times before on the main ATP circuit since way back in 2004, with the former winning 21 of them, so it is fair to say that they know each other well.

Duo more often than not go the distance

However, in the seven times they have met in a best of five sets tie – either in Grand Slams or Davis Cup – they have astonishingly gone the distance on five occasions. For the other two, they went to four sets while Wawrinka pulled out the time before.

Djokovic is aiming to defend his US Open title, but will be up against it with Wawrinka in his way.

That suggests that the pair are set to go all the way once more as they both aim to add another Grand Slam title to their trophy cabinet.

Wawrinka, who has a 100 per cent record from his two major finals and beat Djokovic to take the 2015 French Open crown, has even been taken to five sets this tournament already – by Britain’s own Dan Evans.

Meanwhile, superstar Serb and defending champion Djokovic has dropped a set to lesser opposition Jerzy Janowicz and Gael Monfils this US Open.

So, what are you waiting for punters? Take these terrific odds of 5/2 for Djokovic and Wawrinka to go to five sets in this Flushing Meadows final encounter.
