Bet of the Day: Henderson value in the handicap against Gurney
Highlander impressed in the first round
Daryl Gurney may be the current world number four, but he’s unlikely to get an easy ride against John Henderson in Saturday’s PDC World Championship clash.
The Highlander breezed past Finland’s Marko Kantele with a convincing 3-0 victory in the first round. In the process, he produced an eye-catching 160 checkout.
As for SuperChin, he progressed following victory over world number 41 Ronny Huybrechts. But it wasn’t plain sailing for Gurney, with the Belgian underdog winning the third set.
It’s unlikely Henderson can pull off a shock win, but chances are the Scot will be competitive in this clash. Coral’s Bet of the Day is John Henderson +2.5 at Evens.
Big checkout is on the cards
The Highlander’s 160 checkout against Kantele was very impressive, but Gurney topped that feat in his first round match.
SuperChin produced a 170 checkout during the first set, as well as hitting seven perfect darts in the opening leg of his meeting with The Rebel.
With both players regularly producing ton-plus checkouts, they’re likely to chalk up one mammoth finish between them. Highest Checkout: Over 135.5 is a 5/6 shot.
This pair could produce a long game
With the Coral News Team expecting this to be a competitive match, there could be plenty of value in backing Gurney and Henderson to rack up the sets.
Gurney hasn’t breezed to victory often in recent times. His second round match at last month’s Player’s Championship ended with a 6-3 victory over Robbie Green, a player 13 places below Henderson (#29) in the world rankings.
He also dropped five legs to another player ranked below Henderson, Chris Dobey, in the following round.
That all means The Highlander should pick up a couple of sets in this game, though Gurney will likely have enough to see the Scot off. Total Sets: Over 5.5 could be a smart call at 6/5.
