Bet of the Day: Dimitrov to defeat home hero Gasquet in Paris
Back the Bulgarian for victory
The second round of the Paris Masters continues today and there’s an excellent clash in store involving a French favourite.
Richard Gasquet has been leading the French charge in the capital this week, but he’s up against it versus Grigor Dimitrov.
The Bulgarian has enjoyed a return to form in 2017, following a couple of years in the competitive wilderness.
Dimitrov reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January, before landing his first ATP 1000 title in Cincinnati.
Gasquet hasn’t enjoyed anything like the same success, and owns a poor 10-9 win record ahead of this clash.
Dimitrov to dominate
Gasquet may lead the head-to-head record 5-2, but Dimitrov has won the last two meetings.
Four of the Frenchman’s victories came more than four years ago – before Dimitrov raised his game in 2014.
And in those last two meetings, the Bulgarian won in straight sets.
He’s been in good form too. Only Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro have managed to beat Dimitrov in recent months.
The 11/8 on Dimitrov to again beat Gasquet in straight sets looks too good to ignore.
First-set tie-break looms
Keen to impress on home soil though, the Frenchman is sure to put up a fight.
He has forced a first-set tie-break in each of his last three defeats, and that includes against the might of Roger Federer.
Coral are 8/15 that the first set sees over 9.5 games, and that looks like a pretty solid punt.
But Gasquet tends to fall away in the second set. After losing those three tie-breaks, his lost the second sets 1-6, 2-6 and 4-6. So backing under 22.5 total games could be a savvy option at 11/10.
