Bet of the Day: England to squeeze past Slovakia
Don’t expect too many goals
England can take a big step towards World Cup qualification against Slovakia this evening. Victory would put them five points clear at the top of Group F with only two games to go.
The Three Lions beat Malta 4-0 on Friday. The scoreline doesn’t tell the full story though. It was a very sluggish performance. The travelling fans booed England off at half-time. Three of the four goals then came after the 84th minute.
Gareth Southgate’s team have a relatively easy group. They’ve won all seven games so far and conceded just two goals. But they’ve only scored over two goals in two of those fixtures. Coral tips England to win and Under 2.5 Goals at 21/10 for this one.
Harry Kane to Get on the Scoresheet
Harry Kane still hasn’t scored a single league goal during August. He opened his account for this campaign against Malta though.
Now that he’s got started, expect him to keep firing them in. The Tottenham Hotspur striker has established himself as England’s number nine now.
Kane is 13/5 as First Goalscorer.
Another slow start?
England struggled to find any sort of fluency against Malta. They have home advantage tonight but Slovakia will provide a much sterner test.
Marek Hamsik is their star man and a constant goal threat. The visitors will be well organised and determined to get a key win too.
England’s superior quality should make the difference. But it could take a while to make the breakthrough. With that in mind, Draw/England at 11/4 in the Half Time / Full Time market looks good value.
