Man United, Leicester and Man City headline Tuesday’s Carabao Cup action
Coral look at the key stories from the fourth round
The Carabao Cup enters the fourth round stage on Tuesday with 12 teams battling it out on the night for a place in the quarter-finals.
Manchester City host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad, while Manchester United head to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City in the pick of the ties.
Coral have a look at those two fixtures and more ahead of Tuesday evening’s action…
Battle of the big-spenders
Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers may be in different leagues, but they both share a burning level of ambition. The pair were the biggest spenders in their respective divisions over the summer. And while Man City sit atop the Premier League, Wolves are also flying high in the Championship.
With the hosts likely to rest players for this clash, the visitors could surprise a few people. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side disposed of Southampton in the last round. And while it’ll be more difficult at the Etihad, they should at least cause the Citizens problems.
On that basis, Coral’s 5/4 on Manchester City to Win and Both Teams to Score looks the one to be on. Wolves’ Diego Jota is also tempting at 2/1 to score Anytime, as is City’s Ilkay Gundogan at 19/10.
Can Man United bounce back?
Manchester United have a fantastic relationship with the Carabao Cup. They’re the current holders of the competition and have won the tournament four times since 2005. Against Swansea, the Coral News Team doesn’t think that Mourinho’s charges should prevail, but not as easily as some seem to think.
Both sides are expected to field weakened line-ups for the tie. And that should mean another start for winger Jesse Lingard. The England ace has scored in his last two Carabao Cup appearances and is 12/5 to continue that run against the Swans. United won’t have it all their own way though, and that makes the Draw and Both Teams to Score an interesting proposition at 19/4.
Bristol City to spring another shock?
Bristol City have already conquered Premier League opposition twice in this season’s Carabao Cup. They saw off Watford in the second round before dumping Stoke City out at Ashton Gate last month.
Tight tussle at the King Power
Leicester City v Leeds United has all of the credentials to be a top-quality encounter. Both sides come into the game off the back of victories at the weekend. And both managers will fancy their chances of an extended run in the competition.
The Foxes are 1/2 to go through to the next round, but the Coral News Team think that Leeds are tremendous value at 11/2. Thomas Christiansen’s men put out Burnley in the last round and could take advantage of a Leicester side that look set to make changes. Even as a Double Chance tip, Leeds are excellent value at 8/5.
