Racing Tips: Sir Chauvelin and Alpha Delphini set for success

Nick Murphy | 31 March 2018

Tips for ITV Racing this weekend

There’s something for everyone on ITV this Saturday with flat racing from Musselburgh and jump action from Haydock.

The Queen’s Cup Handicap may be the highlight of the afternoon at 3:35pm, but there’s plenty of action to enjoy before that as well.

The Coral News Team have previewed every race, starting with the opener at 1:50pm…

Alpha Delphini

Take on Alpha Delphini at your peril. Bryan Smart’s raider is two from two at Musselburgh with his latest success coming on his most recent appearance in October.

The seven-year-old also boasts a Listed triumph among his accolades alongside a succession of runs in Graded company. He’s the class horse in the field, and over the perfect distance in ample conditions, it’ll take some performance to see off Graham Lee’s ride.

Creep Desbois

An open field will contest the Middle Distance Chase Series Final Handicap from Haydock at 2:05pm. But it’s Ben Pauling and Creep Desbois who get the nod.

The six-year-old will have to defy a hefty mark to come out on top. He’s been rated 131 by the handicapper. However, previous runs give the French-bred raider plenty to work with.

The colt won comfortably on the soft at Fakenham in December. He followed that up with a narrow second to the consistent Colin’s Brother in a Class 2 contest at Leicester in February.

That form is very handy against a field that looks far from impressive.

Sir Chauvelin

Arguably the biggest race of the day is the Queen’s Cup Handicap from Musselburgh. There’s plenty of interest in this one, with a number of impressive fibresand performers in the running for the £62,250 first prize.

For the Coral News Team, it’s Sir Chauvelin who stands out above the rest. Jim Goldie’s runner was disappointing in the Scottish County Hurdle last time out and is switched back to the flat this afternoon.

He won on his last appearance without obstacles at Newcastle. And he’ll be looking to make amends for two below-par runs on his last two appearances on the turf.

The six-year-old should fare better in a smaller field here and can hit the frame at the very least.

ITV Racing Tips:

2:40 Haydock – Joke Dancer

3:00 Musselburgh – Ayutthaya
