Shearer says: “Liverpool still cannot defend.”

Premier League legend shares his views

The standout game in the Premier League this weekend looks to be Liverpool against Chelsea at Anfield.

Discussing Liverpool is like Groundhog day. Liverpool still cannot defend.

If you want any evidence of that you can look to the opening game of the season where they drew 3-3 with Watford.

They then had a 3-0 lead the other night against Sevilla and they draw that game 3-3.

Ultimately the manager has to take the criticism. Ok, going forward they are as good as anyone but they can’t get the basics right when it comes to defending, especially from set-pieces.

When you are 3-0 up at half-time, you have to see the game out. Klopp said afterwards that they just didn’t perform in the second half, it doesn’t take Sherlock to work that one out!

Chelsea are a much better side with Kante in the team. I think we saw that when he returned to the team against Manchester United.

He gives the back-line much needed protection. He also gets the ball and gives it quickly to players like Hazard and Fabregas who then can hurt the opposition.

There are rumours floating around Chelsea that Conte is not happy.

I think a lot of that is still about him not getting the players he wanted in the summer and that has lingered on. You get the feeling that they are only a couple of results away from something happening with him.

It should be a cracking game this one. I’ll be in the Match of the Day studio on Saturday afternoon so I will be following all the games as they take place and I am looking forward to it.
