Shearer Says: “Nobody can be surprised that Leicester sacked Shakespeare”

Legendary striker gives his thoughts on Foxes axing

I was not surprised when Leicester let Craig Shakespeare go earlier this week.

Why would anybody be surprised by this move when the club sacked the manager who guided them to their greatest moment in history so soon after that success?

It is no coincidence that the same manager is doing well at another football club right now.

Player power got Shakespeare the job. My worry is, where do the owners see Leicester right now? They are not a top six football club in the Premier League.

Historically they are a club which floats around the middle of the table in this division.

They sold their best player last summer in N’Golo Kante to Chelsea and they never replaced him.

Names in the frame

There will be plenty of managers who will want that job.

Sean Dyche has been linked with the position and rightfully so because he has done a magnificent job with Burnley with limited resources.

Chris Coleman took Wales to the semi-final of the European Championship last season and may now be looking to get back into club football.

You also have the likes of Sam Allardyce, David Moyes and Alan Pardew who are out of work at the moment and will have one eye on the vacancy.
