Shearer says: “Liverpool need to bounce back after their disappointing defeat to Burnley”
In another of his exclusive blog interviews with Coral’s Simon Clare, football ambassador Alan Shearer has plenty of thoughts about Tottenham v Liverpool, which kicks off the Premier League weekend at White Hart Lane on Saturday lunchtime.
Shearer touches on Jurgen Klopp’s tactics and in particular the selections he makes up front, also highlighting the solid start he feels Spurs have made to the season under Mauricio Pochettino…
“Possession is not the be-all and end-all” for Liverpool
It’s Liverpool’s third away game in the Premier League because of the rebuilding work at Anfield, and they really do need to bounce back after their disappointing defeat to Burnley last weekend.
If ever anyone needed any evidence that possession is not the be-all and end-all then that was the game last week. What is important is putting the ball in the back of net .
Spurs have made a solid start. I think they will have a decent season and Everton away was a tough game, so to get a point there is not a bad result.
Will Sturridge start among “big name players on show”?
They then beat Palace at home last weekend. So this should be an interesting game with some big name players on show.
Klopp has played both Origi and Firmino as the centre-forward in their games so far with Daniel Sturridge out wide.
Everyone knows that Daniel wants to play centre-forward but until he has a run in the side and stays clear of injuries, I don’t think he can expect to play where he wants to play.
