Shearer shares his 2017 football wish list

Coral ambassador Alan Shearer sat down with us over the festive period to exclusively make his 2017 sport wish list.

The past year has been one filled with thrilling action with Leicester City lifting the Premier League, Andy Murray winning Wimbledon for a second time – becoming ATP world number one – and Britain excelling at the Olympics.

However, looking ahead into the New Year, what are the Premier League all-time leading scorer’s wishes for 2017?

“I want to see Newcastle promoted”

When asked about his footballing wishes for 2017, Shearer was quick to come up with his personal answers: “I have got two [wishes, first] I want to see Newcastle promoted,” after the club met the drop last season under Rafael Benitez.

However, the the future looks bright under the Spaniard and the sleeping giants are in automatic promotion contention.

“And I want to see my old club Blackburn [Rovers survive], they are in a mire, they are in a dogfight, I don’t like to see where they are at this moment in time, I don’t like to see the disharmony between the fans and the owners.”

Shearer won the Premier League with Blackburn during a four year spell at the club.

Finally, Shearer concluded with: “So, I want to see Newcastle promoted and Blackburn to climb the league and get out of trouble and get a bit of happiness at their football club.”
