Crowley Calls It: “She’s definitely an interesting ride and could go well at a price”
The Champion Jockey gives you the inside track on day two of the Ebor Festival at York
1.55 – Yearling Stakes
I begin day two on Dahik for Sheikh Hamdan, and the first thing to say is I’m not sure what difference all the rain we’ve had here [Wednesday morning] will make to the ground, obviously the going has already been changed to good. Dahik is a nice horse and hopefully this will be more his level after his run at Royal Ascot, if he can improve on that he could have an each-way chance.
3.00 – Clipper Logistics Handicap
Quixote is having his first run for Mick Easterby having switched from David Loughnane. I’ve not ridden him before but Mick is a shrewd trainer who likes to have winners at this meeting, his local track, so he’s an interesting ride.
3.35 – Yorkshire Oaks
At the start of the week when the going was good to firm, I really thought Queen’s Trust had a chance of beating hot favourite Enable. The ground went against her at Goodwood and frustratingly it may have gone against her again here. She was third in the race last year and a Breeders’ Cup winner and is a filly I really like, but the more rain we get the more it will hinder her chances, and help Enable’s. We saw at Ascot that Enable will go on the softer ground and the best chance we had of beating her was on quick ground, so it is annoying that this rain has come, a dry 24 hours is what we need!
4.15 – Sir Henry Cecil Stakes
I rode Ouja when she won last time, and although she’s only rated 77 so needs to step up at this Listed level, she’s a big strong sort and John [Gosden] wouldn’t be running her if he didn’t think she was up to the task. She’s definitely an interesting ride and could go well at a price.
4.50 – Fillies’ Handicap
In the last I’m on Gheedaa for the boss. I’ve not ridden her before, and she’s stepping up to 7 furlongs for the first time and in handicap company after a couple of runs at Listed and Group 3 level, but if she can improve for the extra furlong then she has a chance.
