Jamie Spencer looks ahead to six rides on Thursday at Chester

I ride Gabrial’s Kaka in the 2.10pm. Essentially his best form has been on straight tracks on soft ground over a mile so we’ll have to see whether he stays an extended mile and a quarter. His owner, Marwan Koukash, obviously likes to have runners at the meeting and if there had been a suitable mile race he’d have run in that but there isn’t. If he gets the trip he’d have a squeak as he’s been coming down the weights a little bit.

In the Huxley Stakes at 2.40pm I’m on Gabrial. A mile has always been his best trip. I rode him in this race two years ago and he felt like he didn’t really stay the trip. The ground would be a big concern for him now it’s gone soft. I wouldn’t think he’d want it too soft. We’ll just have to see. It looks a strong race this year. He probably has an outsider’s chance.

I’m on Carry on Deryck for David Evans in the 3.45pm. I don’t know much about him as I haven’t ridden him before. He’s owned by Dai Walters. We’ll just have to see what he’s like. I’m as much in the dark as everybody else.

For the same trainer I ride Raj To Riches in the 4.20pm. He’s got good form in two maidens with two second places and he looks the form horse in the race. He’s got decent speed figures and David’s horses are well tuned up which is what you need for Chester as you want to get out well, bag the rail and get a good position.

In the 4.55pm I ride Steve Prescott for Richard Fahey. He likes this horse. He thinks he’s got him back in good form. He’s got him ready for this meeting for Marwan so hopefully he’ll have a good chance.

In the 5.25pm the last race I’m on Ardmay for Kevin Ryan. He ran a good race at Doncaster and just got stuck in traffic a bit halfway down the straight. He’ll be better for the run and Kevin has been aiming him for this race since Doncaster. The ground will be fine for him. He likes it and he’s got to have an each way chance.
