Jamie Spencer “pleased that the ground is drying out” for Classic Trial mount at Sandown
It’s been a quiet enough week. I went to Brighton on Tuesday and rode a winner, Visionary, for Robert Cowell. I had a day off yesterday, and went to the Moorcroft Quiz last night, where my team did OK but put it this way, I’m no Einstein! But the weekend is going to be a good bit busier.
I ride Dwight D in the Classic Trial today at Sandown, the 2.20pm. He’s been working well this spring, and they are very happy with him and pleased that the ground is drying out. The better the ground the better it will be for him as he’s a very good mover. Midterm is in there and is very much an unknown quantity but I’m hopeful that Dwight D can run a big race and think he can outrun his odds.
Midterm did well to win first time up at Newbury where the ground was soft enough that day. He looked like he would appreciate better ground. This is the obvious starting point for a horse like him.
In the 2.55pm I ride Breton Rock for David Simcock. He’s ready to start off. He always generally improves for his first run. Toormore is carrying a penalty and it’s his first run also while Belardo was impressive last time but against inferior opposition. It looks an open race. Belardo is probably the one to beat unless something untoward happens.
I ride High Hopes in the maiden fillies’ race at 4.35pm. She’s a nice filly, and she’ll like the ground. She ran very well at Newbury on soft ground first time out, and came home well. She’s been going nicely over the start of the spring and we are really happy with her. She’s had that racecourse experience so we are hoping to put that to good use.
