StableTalk: “I think my horse has a fantastic chance of coming out on top”

All my horses ran really well at Cheltenham but to top it off at the end of the week with a winner was just fantastic. We know how hard it is to get a winner at the meeting because everybody is trying so hard to do so. We’ve always known Superb Story was a good horse. We laid him out for the race and everything fell right for him on the day.

Saturday

2.40 Newton Abbot

We just have the one runner at Newton Abbot tomorrow where Knockgraffon runs in the novices’ hurdle. He’s got a rating of 132 so he is a pretty highly rated novice. It will be his last run of the season. It’s a step down in class for him from his run at Sandown last time in the Grade Three Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle. It is by no means his to lose but he has the best form in the race.

3.10 Haydock
This is one of the Challenger Stayer Chase Series finals which is a great initiative and fantastic to see on the calendar. I think my horse Thinger Licht has a fair chance of coming out on top. I like the way he is progressive. He’s got a new mark now from what he has had in the past and that is the question; whether he can defy the mark or not. The ground will be ideal as long as it doesn’t tip down and go heavy and the trip won’t be a problem.

4.20 Haydock
TOBY LERONE at Southwell 2-3-15.

Toby Lerone runs in the handicap chase over 3m4f. He should like the trip and has done well at the track before. He runs better with blinkers on. This is a pretty competitive type of race but I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t run well.

4.50 Haydock
We run Asum in the bumper at the back end of the card at Haydock. He’s a very nice horse who is beautifully bred. I think a lot of him and whatever this horse does in the bumper, he’s going to be a better horse when he goes jumping. We like him a lot for the future.

Sunday

1.50 Sedgefield

Master Jake runs in the novices’ hurdle at Sedgefield. My horse is in much better form than when I ran him at Lingfield. I think he will go well. Maxie T looks the standout horse on ratings but I think Master Jake will get closer than ratings might suggest.

4.10 Sedgefield
This is a race which has cut up a bit as the top rated is just 122. I’m very happy with my horse Samtu going into it. Ground will be perfect. The trip is about right. He ran well there on his last start and I think he will come on for that run. He’s got a good chance but I am sure connections of all the horses will say the same as it is very competitive.

4.00 Plumpton
Baratineur returns to Plumpton for the Sussex Champion Hurdle following his success there last month. We were always going to come for this race. The rain which is scheduled will help. His chances are obvious as he won round here last time in impressive style.

Bank Holiday Monday

HORSE RACING

Value at Risk will run on bank holiday Monday at Fairyhouse on the Irish Grand National card. The declarations are not through yet but this Grade Two hurdle contest is the perfect type of race for him. After he ran at Huntingdon in a good handicap, I had this race in mind as his owner spotted it as an alternative to handicaps in the UK. I have been very happy with him in the build up to this and this trip is perfect but we wouldn’t want bundles of rain. Soft will be fine though.
