StableTalk: “The ground, trip and track are everything we would want them to be”
It was great to have a winner at Fairyhouse on Monday with Value At Risk. I’ve always told everyone how much I think of this horse so for him to go and do it in a big race was superb. We’ll probably give him one more run which is likely be on the last day of the season at Sandown in a Listed contest, and then we will go chasing with him next season.
Bilzic runs for us in the opener at Newbury. He’s a chaser in the making but obviously he has to go down the hurdling route first. It looks to be a pretty tight novices’ hurdle, but he jumps well so he should put in a good run. In reality though, we are looking forward to him going over fences.
I have been looking forward to running Rene’s Girl in this Listed race all season. The ground, trip and track are everything we would want them to be, although there will be lots of trainers who have also been looking forward to this race. We couldn’t be happier with her ahead of this so fingers crossed that she will run a big race.
Cobra De Mai did not run too badly in the juvenile race earlier in the season around Newbury so he has decent form at this track. He’s fairly weighted but again it is very competitive. We’ll take our chance but it is going to be a hard race.
Savello has been consistent all year so I am really looking forward to running him again. It’s a very tight race on ratings but there is no reason he won’t run well again. He is a horse who absolutely loves what he does!
We’re putting a pair of cheekpieces on Ashoka and Bridget will be riding him to take five pounds off so hopefully they’ll help out as much as possible. We’ve been very happy with him so far; we didn’t get into the Fred Winter at Cheltenham so we were always going to come here afterwards.
Aintree and Punchestown
Sadly I won’t have a runner in the Grand National, however, I do plan on taking maybe 20 runners to the meeting. You do have to be careful though because it comes so soon after Cheltenham. Some horses may look in good shape at home but once you put them in a tough race, they can really struggle.
As for Punchestown, I don’t think I’ll have many runners as Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott normally clean up at that meeting. We might take one or two over but it is going to be tough to get a winner over there.
