Scu Says: “I can see Eddiemaurice going very close”

I was thrilled with Thistlecrack’s run in the King George yesterday. He travelled and jumped well throughout the race and turning in I even thought we might win. It was a big improvement on his Newbury reappearance run and I think he’ll improve again for that run. He showed all his usual exhuberance and he gave me a great ride. We can now look forward to some big targets ahead.

12.45 Kempton – Haulani

I ride Haulani in the first race for Brian Ellison. He ran a good third on his debut and has the best form of those that have run. If he has improved for that first run then he should have a solid chance in this against a number of horses making their debuts.

2.30 Kempton – Vaniteux

Vaniteux ran well on his latest start which is undoubtedly his best run for us so far. The less rain the better for him. On all known form he’s the fourth best horse in the race. He showed us a lot more last time which was encouraging, but Politologue, Special Tiara and Forest Bihan are a tough trio and on a flat track and decent ground, Special Tiara is probably the one we all have to beat.

3.05 Kempton – No Buts

I ride No Buts for Bridgy. He’s been a very consistent horse over the years and I see no reason why he shouldn’t run his race again. He’s on a decent mark and should give a good account of himself

3.40 Kempton – Eddiemaurice

Eddiemaurice ran well at Ascot last time where he was hampered at the last, otherwise he would have finished even closer. On that run he must have a great chance. I can see him going very close.

Coral Welsh Grand National

Mysteree is in good form at home. It’s his first run of the season but Michael has him as fit as he can get him. On the plus side there is plenty of rain around and the heavier the ground the better for him. It just depends on whether he can hold his position early on. He’s an  out and out stayer. It’s a tricky start at Chepstow and I just hope that he doesn’t get shuffled back early on. That is probably his biggest challenge. He needs to get away well and get a good run around that first bend. He seems in good order, the ground will suit, he has some good strong form in the book, and goes there with a cracking chance
