Scudamore says: “I think Kateson will take a lot of beating”

Coral ambassador previews his rides this weekend

Saturday Runners

1.25 Haydock – Jester Jet

She’s a really good mare and a good ride to pick up. Her regular rider Robbie Dunne is off injured at the moment and hopefully he’ll be back very soon. He gets on very well with her and I’ll give Robbie a ring to talk it through. She’s a high class prospect.

2.55 Haydock – Champers On Ice

Champers On Ice is making his comeback. It looks to very tough for him off a long layoff. He hasn’t quite achieved what we hoped he would achieve, but he’s still a relatively young horse so let’s hope he can get his career back on track.

3.35 Haydock – Vieux Lion Rouge

He’s going to have to bounce back from his below-par run in the Coral Welsh Grand National. He’s coming back down to a winnable mark but then he’s only run the one decent race in the last year, when he was second in the Becher. A repeat of that run though would see him go close and he has won this race before, two years ago, off the same mark 146.

He does like it round Haydock and it was a step back in the right direction at Aintree, and the fact he won the race two years ago is what you’d be pinning your hopes on.

Ramses De Teillee ran a very good race at Chepstow in the Coral Welsh Grand National but he has to now go and do it at another track other than Chepstow, where he has such a great record.

4.10 Haydock – Kateson

I think Kateson will take a lot of beating. He has the highest rating in the race. He ran very well in what looks a rock solid Grade 1 at Newbury when finishing third.

I respect Stoney Mountain, he’s a horse I like a lot. He was well beaten by Beakstown last time but that was a really good race. He probably has the edge over Rockpoint on that form.

Kateson is a really likeable horse but it was tough because I had the choice to ride Rockpoint as well as Kateson. I just felt that the conditions of the race suited Kateson more and that swung it really.

It will be interesting to see Kateson step up to three miles as I’ve always felt that’s the trip that he wants. I think he’s a good horse and hopefully he’ll prove me right in this race.
