Take a look at poker’s greatest ever players!

The greatest players you’ve never heard of!

Poker players often don’t receive much media attention, even though they play one of the most popular games online. There’s a good chance you’ve heard of David Beckham, even if you don’t like football. Likewise, the name Roger Federer might sound familiar, although you don’t really enjoy tennis. We bet though, that you’ve never heard of Daniel Negreanu, and if you don’t follow poker the name won’t even get anywhere near the bell to ring it. Poker might be one of the most well played games online, but unfortunately, people aren’t clued up too much about the true popularity of the sport.

Well, if you’re looking for a quick education in all things poker then you’ve come to the right place! We’re going to take a look at some of the best poker players on the planet – new and old. Enjoy!

Chip Reese

Chip Reese was a true poker legend. Before he died in 2007, tragically from pneumonia, he bagged an incredible $3,500,000 in cash poker prizes. Of course, this is a relatively small amount money compared to the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey, but you must remember that Chip Reese was playing cash games, which are essentially hand by hand bets, where players put down money for a hand instead of risking cash on a single tournament. Reese did enter a few tournaments though, but made most of his money playing cash games.

Reese started playing poker at six, beating fifth-graders with ease. He was originally going to study at Harvard University, but instead chose to study at Dartmouth College. While at college, he joined the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, where he taught fellow members how to play bridge and poker. From college he was admitted into Stanford Law School, but decided instead to venture into a career of poker after bagging $60k at a poker tournament in Las Vegas. By the time Stanford came around, he would have won over $100k. This was the start of Reese’s poker – and subsequent gambling career. To get a snippet of his fortune, his house was put up for sale valued at $5.7 million, purchased with winnings from baseball betting and other investments.

Jonathan Duhamel

Just 28 years old, Jonathan Duhamel is one of the most talented players to ever grace poker. When starting off his poker career he took the rather intelligent decision to play under the poker name ‘Duhh’ to irritate people when winning, causing them to tilt. Throughout his career he has accrued around $17.8 million in poker winnings. He is in the top 10 rankings for cashes and has 3 WSOP bracelets. Duhamel has done so much in so few years that he had to be mentioned on our list.

Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu is often regarded as one of the best poker players to have ever existed. In the last decade alone he is regarded as a the best player to have ever graced the poker table. His total winnings have reached an incredible $30 million, and has won 6 WSOP bracelets in his career. GPI – Global Poker Index – an independent poker ranking panel has declared that Negreanu is the best poker player in the last 10 years. His record is amazing, being the only player to make a final table at all three of the WSOP tournaments. He is also the first player to win a bracelet at each and in 2014 he was, with much acclaim, inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
