£10 Wednesday acca pays £64

Frank Monkhouse | 7 June 2017

Focus goes on midweek friendlies

Italy vs Uruguay headlines an interesting Wednesday of international football friendlies, and Coral traders have Azzurri as favourites for the win, but there’s enough of a price to give backers a midweek interest.

We give our opinions on the outcome of the main event, as well as the other four fixtures of note in our accumulator, where every £10 down pays £127.70. Prices and returns given are correct at the time of writing. Let’s look at the thinking behind each leg…..

Italy beat Uruguay

This will be the first meeting of these sides since the World Cup in 2014, when Uruguay won 1-0, thanks to a Diego Godin strike on 81 minutes. Los Charruas do enjoy the lion’s share of success in the head-to-head stats, leading 4-2, with four draws, but we’re taking Italy to go against the grain here. Uruguay were beaten, rather convincingly, by Republic of Ireland last time out, meaning they’ve now lost each of their last four. A dozen goals conceded during that time makes them a risky option, so we’re sticking with the Italians at 11/10. The stats make that a massive price.

Spain beat Columbia

Another glamour friendly, but we’re going for The Red Fury in what should be a gripping contest. The picks have barely put a foot wrong during their World Cup qualifying campaign, and currently sit top of the tree in G, level on points with Italy, and four ahead of Israel in third. Julen Lopetegui’s side have won each of their last three at that level, and beat France 2-0 in a friendly in March. Columbia have won just two of their last six. A Spanish win goes at 8/15.

South Korea beat Iraq

Going a bit further afield, the Emirates Club Stadium, to be exact, and Korea are taken to build on their recent good form. Three wins in their last four saw them get the better of Syria, Uzbekistan and Canada, the latter being the most impressive during that purple patch. Iraq were last seen losing to Saudi Arabia, and they have never managed a win over Wednesday’s opponents from four previous tries. The 4/5 about South Korea will do a job.

Jaro beat OPS

Moving into the Finnish Ykkonen and favourites Jaro are added to the list in an attempt to boost our returns. Jaro haven’t enjoyed the kind of start to life they would’ve expected this term, but do go in unbeaten in three, and are an improving outfit. That counts for something when matched with OPS, who have proven themselves to be untrustworthy, their last three reading lose-win-draw. Jaro should squeeze through at 4/11 and finish us off.
