Big Match Breakdown: Leicester v Liverpool

Daniel Anwar | 1 September 2018

Odds, tips and preview for Premier League clash

Liverpool will be looking to maintain their hold on top spot when they travel to Leicester City in Saturday’s early kick-off.

The Reds can blow away sides when they’re at their best. But they found it hard to get going against Brighton & Hove Albion last week. If they’re not on it, Leicester have the quality to make them pay.

The action gets underway at 12:30pm on Sky Sports Premier League.

Head-to-Head

These teams have met nine times over the last four seasons. Liverpool have come out on top in five of those, Leicester have won three and there’s been just one draw during that period.

The Reds got the victory both league meetings last season, though Leicester were 2-0 winners in the Carabao Cup.

Games between them tend to be high-scoring. Six of those nine recent clashes have produced Over 2.5 Goals.

Likely XIs

Leicester v Liverpool teams

As Jamie Vardy is suspended, Kelechi Iheanacho is set to lead the line for the hosts. Claude Puel’s biggest selection dilemma will be deciding whether to start Wes Morgan or Jonny Evans alongside Harry Maguire at the back.

Jurgen Klopp could give Fabinho his first Liverpool start here, but with three wins from three, he’s likely to stick with the side that’s been doing so well lately.

Key Battles

Liverpool don’t have a proper defensive midfielder in their side, which means James Maddison could find space.

The twin threat of Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray on the left could cause problems for the visitors too.

But will Leicester be able to keep out Liverpool’s front three? They already look in the groove this term.

If Puel’s side are too adventurous, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will make them pay on the break.

Match Odds

Jurgen Klopp’s side are 2/5 to make it four league wins out of four. Leicester are 13/2, with the draw at 18/5.

As mentioned earlier, there are usually plenty of goals when these sides face each other. Both Teams to Score is 4/5, while Liverpool and Over 2.5 Goals is Evens.

Salah unsurprisingly leads the goalscorer markets. The prolific winger is 5/2 to open the scoring for the third time in league action this season. He’s also 3/4 to net Anytime.

Mane is 17/10 to get his fourth goal of the campaign at any point.

Iheanacho still hasn’t cemented his place in the Leicester side since his move last summer. A goal here at 13/5 would help his cause.

Maddison is a 16/5 shot to score too. He poses a genuine threat from long distance.
