Big Match Breakdown: West Ham v Arsenal

The Hammers will be looking for another big scalp

After beating Chelsea at home last weekend, West Ham United host Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Hammers were good value for the win against the champions. Their disciplined and organised display will be the blueprint for the struggling side going forward.

Arsenal needed a late equaliser from Olivier Giroud to salvage a point at Southampton. They’ll need to raise their game if West Ham defend as well as they did against Chelsea.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of a big London derby…

Head to Head

Arsenal have dominated recent clashes between the two clubs. They’ve won 13 of the last 14 meetings.

The Gunners missed a chance to get into the top four with their draw at St. Mary’s. Arsene Wenger’s team are fifth but haven’t won either of their last two league games.

West Ham have looked much more solid under David Moyes recently.

Before their win over Chelsea, they almost clinched a draw away to league leaders Manchester City. They could climb out of the relegation zone if they avoid defeat here.

Likely XIs

West Ham United v Arsenal odds

David Moyes is likely to stick with the side that did so well against Chelsea. That would mean Michail Antonio playing in an unfamiliar role up front, with Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez and Diafra Sakho on the bench.

Arsene Wenger is without Aaron Ramsey and Shkodran Mustafi, which could open the door for Jack Wilshere and Rob Holding. He could also give Olivier Giroud his first league start of the season in attack.

Key Battles

Arsenal have conceded in the opening five minutes of their last two league games. West Ham will want to replicate their quick start against Chelsea and catch the Gunners cold.

Marko Arnautovic will be key to that. If he’s on it, he can cause real problems for Arsenal. But his match-winning display on Saturday has been the exception rather than the rule since his club-record move.

Arsenal will want more from Alexis Sanchez in particular. He did get an assist against Southampton but plenty of attacks broke down because he needlessly lost possession.
