Big Match Breakdown: Wigan v Man City
Can Wigan repeat their 2013 cup final upset?
The leaders of the Premier League meet the likely League One winners as Manchester City travel to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fifth round.
There’s a quarter-final tie at home against Southampton at stake here. And the Coral News Team have all the pre-match info…
Head to Head
The last time these two sides met was in the unforgettable 2013 FA Cup final. City were huge favourites to beat Wigan, who were relegated to the Championship only days after the final.
But the Latics emerged triumphant after Ben Watson headed in an injury-time winner.
Prior to that game at Wembley, City had won nine of the previous ten meetings between the two sides. All nine of those wins were to nil as well.
Wigan will be without Shaun MacDonald and Craig Morgan, Paul Cook has a strong squad available otherwise.
Pep Guardiola is expected to make a few changes but he’ll still name a side packed with internationals. The likes of Danilo and Claudio Bravo are in line to start.
Wigan have the best defence in League One this season. They’ve only conceded 18 goals in 30 games so far. That solid backline will be full tested by City.
Sergio Aguero is in sensational form with six goals in his last four games. The home side will need to mark him closely and try to cut out his supply line.
Kevin De Bruyne could be rested but Cook’s team will still have to deal with David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan. The two Wigan central midfielders have to find a way to disrupt their rhythm.
Think Aguero will continue his hot streak? He’s 23/10 to score 2 or more goals.
