Blackburn must battle for point at Fulham in Championship clash
Fulham’s fixture with Blackburn Rovers, live on Sky Sports before Super Sunday, is about more than just two Scottish strikers at respective clubs with major pricetags. If either of this fallen Premier League pair are to get back to the promised land and reap the rewards of next season’s TV bonanza, then they need to start picking up the pace.
Rovers have won their last three head-to-heads, but travel to Craven Cottage as Coral’s 2/1 outsiders to take three points back to Lancashire. Kit Symons’ side, meanwhile, are 29/20 favourites for a home win, with the draw a tempting 23/10 chance.
In Ross McCormack, Fulham have a proven Championship striker, but so do Blackburn with fellow Scotland international Jordan Rhodes, who is yet to score this term due to injury problems.
With attacking partner Rudy Gestede sold and Rovers boss Gary Bowyer under pressure to reverse a slide that likely means his team will once again kick-off in the bottom three, once rampant Rhodes no longer looks the certainty he used to. A 5/4 price for him to score anytime thus looks a little short.
McCormack, meanwhile, has three goals for London outfit Fulham this term across all competitions so far, and is a fabulous 5/1 to break the deadlock in this encounter. Also set to face Rovers is former attacking midfielder Tom Cairney, who could certainly show the Ewood Park side what they are missing.
Cairney, another with Scottish connections, has goals against Brighton and Hove Albion and Hull City, who were the Championship’s top two coming into this weekend, and thus rates highly as a 5/1 anytime chance to continue supporting McCoramck in attack.
Should Rhodes’ scoring touch still be found to desert him, then Nathan Delfouneso is 2/1 in the same market to make the impact Blackburn desperately need in order to revive their fortunes. An Aston Villa academy product, he has two goals in all competitions since being brought to the club by Bowyer on a Bosman.
