Bayern 4/9 for Champions League win after clinical Camp Nou victory

Bayern Munich booked their place in the Champions League semi-final with a crushing 3-0 second leg victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou, setting up the first all-German decider in European Cup history. Coral have installed them as 4/9 favourites to lift the trophy at Wembley with Borussia Dortmund 7/4 outsiders.

The ascendency of the Bundesliga to league of the moment was complete last night as Bayern joined compatriots Borussia Dortmund in knocking out the best teams in Spain, both of whom had reached the semi finals of last year’s competition.

However whereas Bayern were merciless in killing off not just the challenge of Barcelona, but dare we say the era of Barcelona, Dortmund stuttered over the line in Madrid, fluffing several good chances before holding on for dear life with their hosts just one goal away from a spectacular comeback.

That Santiago Bernabeu thriller was the second time in successive Champions League ties that Jurgen Klopp’s Schwarzgelben had muddled through in the closing minutes of the second leg, after having to rely on a spectacular defensive freak out from Malaga to progress to the semi final stage.

Bayern suffered a similar wobble when losing the second leg of their round of 16 match-up with Arsenal, but reacted by converting both subsequent first leg wins to aggregate victories in clinical fashion.

Bayern are 5/6 to win the match to win inside 90 minutes, with Dortmund 11/4 and the normal time draw 11/5. However extra time should far from discounted, with four of the last 10 Champions League finals going into extended play.

In a fascinating whistle-whetter for the grand occasion on the twenty-fifth of May, Bayern head to the Westfalenstadion to face Jurgen Klopp’s men this weekend in their third-last game of the domestic season.

The visitors are narrow 5/4 favourites in a fixture they’ve failed to win since 2009, whilst Dortmund – yet to beat Bayern in three matches this term having won all three clashes in 2011/12 – are 21/10.
