Man Utd meet Bayern, Chelsea face PSG in Champions League quarters

Reaction to the Champions League quarter-finals draw as Blues play Ligue 1 giants PSG and Red Devils do battle with favourites Bayern Munich

There’s a repeat of the 1999 Champions League final in the quarters this season as Manchester United face holders Bayern Munich. David Moyes’ Red Devils remain outsiders, however, and have drifted to 28/1 to go all the way again.

Chelsea, the only other Premier League team left in the competition, have been paired with French champions PSG. Both sides are now rated by Coral as 11/1 shots (both out from 10/1 respectively) to lift the European Cup.

El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona avoided one another as Barca battle the third Spanish team left in the draw, Atletico Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real, who are now second-favourites for the competition at 16/5, meet beaten finalists from last term Borussia Dortmund (like United, they are 28/1 to lift the trophy).

Bayern remain strong favourites at 7/4 (from 15/8) and Barcelona stay 7/2 shots for another crown, but Atletico have drifted from 12/1 to 16/1 for winning the Champions League this season outright.

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid
These two sides are in the hunt for the La Liga title, and have already faced each other three times this term. All those have been draws, but Diego Simeone’s Atletico have already fallen foul of the away goals rule in the Spanish Supercup.

Defences have largely been on top, with each side scoring just once in their encounters. For what it’s worth, Barca did a league double over Atletico last season. Since then, however, they have recruited former Nou Camp striker David Villa to supplement Diego Costa in attack.

Coral make Tata Martino’s Barcelona odds-on favourites to qualify for the semi-finals at 4/9. If punters fancy Atletico, take the 7/4 price.

Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund
Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund stunned Real in the semis last season, with a first leg four-goal haul from Bayern Munich-bound Robert Lewandowski proving key in them winning that tie.

Before the Bundesliga outfit are dismissed this term, consider that they went to the Bernabeu in the group stage in 2012/13 too and earned a respectable 2-2 draw. Take 4/1 if you fancy them to be level this time around.

Naturally, Carlo Ancelotti’s team are odds-on favourites for victory in their home leg at 1/3. Real icon Cristiano Ronaldo is the top-scorer in this competition and is 2/9 to win the Golden Boot.

PSG v Chelsea
Coral make Laurent Blanc’s Parisians even-money favourites for the first leg of this tie at the Parc des Princes. Chelsea (5/1) won on their only previous visit, however, and club captain John Terry was among the scorers in that 2004/05 group stage encounter.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have the chance to show English audiences what he can do. The prolific Swede, who netted a four-goal haul for his country on his last visit, is 4/1 to win the Champions League’s Golden Boot.

Manchester United v Bayern Munich
Draws are the most common result when United and Bayern do battle. Four of their nine Champions League encounters have finished level. Both has beaten the other en route to winning this competition too.

Moyes’ men are 4/1 outsiders this time around to beat Munich at Old Trafford, though. Pep Guardiola is odds-on to come back to the Allianz Arena with a lead at 8/11. It’s 5/2 for a draw, but making a case against the holders is very difficult.
