Coral’s tempting Champions League tips
Finally, the Champions League resumes following its festive pause, and Coral celebrate the return of cracking continental action by highlighting five fantastic bets for the midweek melees.
There’s plenty to pick from in these round of 16 rumbles, as revived Premier League side Chelsea travel to Paris to meet PSG, while Roma host Real Madrid, plus much more…
PSG v Chelsea – 5/2 for a draw
There’s something rather apt about Chelsea crossing the channel to Paris, also known as the City of Love, just after Valentine’s Day, but this tightly-matched duel will be far from friendly.
Newcastle United may have felt Chelsea’s wrath at the weekend, but PSG are an entirely different kettle of fish, with just one defeat in all competitions across 39 games.
The pair just can’t stop meeting at this stage, having drawn in both last 16 legs in 2015 and ended evenly in three of their six previous scuffles. So, back the Blues and Parisians at 5/2 to split the spoils, with the crunch clash still to come in London.
PSG V Chelsea – Both teams to score at 6/5
Just because these sides know how to cancel each other out does not mean there won’t be goals in the French capital, with three strikes apiece across last season’s scuffles.
PSG have drawn just four blanks all term, and lead Ligue 1 with a staggering goal difference of 51, having scored 26 more than closest competitors Monaco.
Much of this is thanks to the inspiration of Argentine Angel Di Maria and the emphatic finishing of formidable striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has 27 strikes across the board.
While, the Blues are no slouches up top either, having just thumped five past the Magpies, with the likes of Pedro and Diego Costa finally sparking. Why not back both sides to score at 6/5 then?
Benfica v Zenit St Petersburg – Mitroglou 5/1 to strike first
These two teams also met last year, in another spot of sporting deja vu, but this time around Portuguese giants Benfica have a card up their sleeve for Russian club Zenit.
Nope, not wonderkids Renato Sanches or Goncalo Guedes, but Fulham-owned forward and now Greek goal machine Kostas Mitroglou. Yes, him!
On-loan marksman Mitroglou has been eating Primeira Liga opposition up for breakfast and will now turn his impeccable timing to continental football. An impressive 16 goals already, including eight in his last six, make the Greek value at 5/1 to score first.
Gent v Wolfsburg – Draxler 11/4 to score anytime
It is the first time either of these two teams have made the knockout stages, but there is a huge gulf in class that should see Bundesliga big-guns Wolfsburg at least find the net against Belgium’s Gent.
Die Wolfe’s brightest light in recent weeks has been German prodigy Julian Draxler, who arrived amid much fanfare from Schalke in summer. Two goals in his last three league games show the youngster is coming good, and excellent at 11/4 to notch anytime.
Roma v Real Madrid – Madrid 11/5 to win and both sides score
Eternal City side Roma have looked much improved on the pitch since Luciano Spalletti’s prodigal return, with four recent Serie A wins in a row.
The Giallorossi are also back among the goals with 10 from those four fixtures, but still seem unlikely to match the menace of rampant Real, as Cristiano Ronaldo and co boast 13 from their past four.
Yet, though Los Blancos are undefeated under new boss Zinedine Zidane, they have leaked three in their last two triumphs, meaning an 11/5 price for victory in Rome but both teams to score could prove a bargain.
