Top-flight transfers on the way?
With the January transfer window now into its second week, Premier League clubs are beginning to take stock of their respective squads.
Some clubs have already dipped into the market, while others are preparing the chequebook to bring in reinforcements.
With just under three weeks of the window remaining, the Coral News Team have picked out five of the Championship’s most exciting players who could make the move to the top-flight.
Bobby Reid has been a revelation for Bristol City this season. The 24-year-old has bagged 14 goals in 31 games for the upwardly mobile Robins. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, either.
Southampton, West Ham United and Newcastle United are all said to be in the running for the hitman. With speculation continuing to rise, Lee Johnson could face a struggle to hold onto one of his star men.
In 2015, Ollie Watkins was playing for Weston-Super-Mare in the National League South. Fast forward three years and the Brentford star is being touted for a move to the big time.
The 22-year-old ace has handled the step up to the Championship from Exeter City with ease. He’s bagged eight goals in all competitions and provided three assists. If he continues to progress at his current rate, it won’t be long before a move to the top-flight comes calling.
Leeds United have an array of exciting young talent. Ronaldo Viera, Matthew Pennington, Hadi Sacko and Conor Shaughnessy are all promising footballers. But it’s the 22-year-old Kalvin Phillips who is attracting the most attention.
The Whites’ academy graduate initially broke through as a box-to-box midfielder. Now, though, he’s employed further up the pitch. He wins the ball, sets it off to his teammates and gets attacks flowing. For a club looking for a vibrant and energetic player with attacking flair, Phillips is the answer.
Given Bristol City’s good form this season, it should come as no surprise that more than one of their star players is featured in this list. Joe Bryan has been one of the stars of the show in a defensive unit that boasts one of the Championship’s top defensive records.
The attacking full-back has four goals to his name this term and is rumoured to be attracting interest from Newcastle United and Everton.
Hull City striker Jarrod Bowen is the Championship’s joint-fourth top goalscorer. He’s netted 11 goals in 26 games so far this season for the struggling Tigers. That’s an excellent return for a player in his first campaign as a regular starter.
Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion are both said to be interested in the striker. As a player who thrives inside the six-yard-box, Bowen could be an ideal acquisition for both teams who like to get the ball into the box.
