In-form Norwich should continue Anglia derby dominance over Ipswich
February could not have gone any better for Norwich City after they recorded a perfect five wins out of five to put them back in the Championship promotion picture.
They have run roughshod over East Anglia rivals Ipswich Town in recent meetings too, with three straight wins in this derby fixture, and are odds-on 4/5 favourites with Coral to continue their fine recent form with victory over the Tractor Boys once more.
Mick McCarthy’s men are starting to wobble in their own quest to return Premier League football to Suffolk. Ipswich have failed to win four of the last seven, but are 10/3 outsiders to upset the Canaries at Carrow Road. A rare derby day draw is 11/4.
Norwich’s last nine goals have all come from forward duo Lewis Grabban and Cameron Jerome, or box-to-box midfielder Bradley Johnson. It’s no coincidence this trio are the Norfolk side’s three leading marksmen.
It was Grabban who grabbed the only goal in the reverse fixture at Portman Road, and he is 5/1 to get the opener once more. Canaries top scorer Jerome, meanwhile, is shorter at 4/1 in that market.
Johnson is a 7/2 to net anytime, and Neil also has long-serving pair Russell Martin (12/1) and Wes Hoolahan (10/3) to call upon as players that have been on target in this fixture before.
McCarthy has moved to boost his attacking options with the loan capture of Leicester City and New Zealand striker Chris Wood with Noel Hunt out injured.
It’s to the Championship’s leading marksman Daryl Murphy that the travelling Tractor Boys will look to for a big performance, though. The Republic of Ireland forward has three in his last four outings, so is a superb 7/4 anytime scorer shout.
Freddie Sears, a winter window signing from Colchester United, netted twice in Ipswich’s previous match, so may be long at 14/1 for a repeat performance or better, but tempting at 11/4 to be on target in this derby.
