Chelsea hoping to finally lure Lulic to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea (odds-on favourites at 5/6 to win the Premier League) are reportedly back in for Lazio’s versatile Senad Lulic, after several previous attempts to sign the Bosnian failed to materialise.

Although primarily a winger, the 28-year-old has been used in a number of positions down the left hand side for his club this season. He is currently tied to the Italians until 2017 and has a reported price-tag of around £9m.

Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his squad in the summer with the likes of left backs Ashley Cole and Ryan Bertrand seemingly having no future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are fairly short in the wide positions, especially since the January transfer of Juan Mata to Manchester United, and Lulic could provide more cover to compliment the likes of Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle and new signing Mohamed Salah.

Lulic, prior to signing for Lazio in 2011, played his whole professional career in Switzerland, but is going to be present for his country Bosnia and Herzegovina at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Eastern European nation have never taken part in football’s most famous competition, but certainly have a chance of progressing to the latter stages, after being grouped with Argentina, Iran and Nigeria. They are odds-on second favourites to qualify from group F, while are 125/1 to go all the way and cause the biggest surprise in the competition’s history.

Lazio are currently in eighth place in Serie A this season, 17 points behind the Champions League places and six off the automatic Europa League spots. Surely the player would now take the chance to join a club who look likely to challenge for trophies in years to come.

Jueventus and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in Lulic – who scored the only goal in the Coppa Italia last season against arch-rivals Roma.
