Man Utd Community Shield player ratings
Jose Mourinho gave debuts to two of his summer signings from the start…
David de Gea (6)
Let down big time by Fellaini for Vardy leveller. Always a safe pair of hands in net.
Antonio Valencia (5)
Out of position for the Vardy equaliser, but showed plenty of defensive attributes beforehand. Albrighton peripheral to the game up against Ecuadorian. Assisted Ibrahimovic winner.
Eric Bailly (6)
Learned from folly of diving into tackles early on and grew in stature as first-half wore on. Erratic thereafter. Booked for bundling over Vardy and made a high challenge on Gray from a corner. Broadcasters gave him Man of the Match, would disagree with that.
Daley Blind (6)
Surprised to see Dutchman still playing centre back under Mourinho, but may have more to do with Chris Smalling’s extended summer break following England involvement.
Luke Shaw (6.5)
Impressive on his return from lengthy lay-off with mistakes few and far between, keeping PFA Player of the Year Mahrez quiet. Subbed with 20 minutes to go.
Michael Carrick (6)
Elder statesman of United midfield steady as ever, getting his team on front foot by picking out forward-thinking passes. Even slower over the ground, though, and needs dynamism of Pogba alongside him for sterner tests. Subbed after an hour.
Marouane Fellaini (3.5)
Certainly has the physicality that appeals to Mourinho in a midfielder, but Belgium bruiser may have to make way for prospective record Red Devils signing Pogba. Huge mistake with poor back-pass set Vardy away to equalise. Days at Old Trafford could be numbered.
Jesse Lingard (7)
Beat four defenders with mazy run in left channel to net opening goal, evoking memories of George Best. Seems to love playing at Wembley, adding to his FA Cup final winner here. Came off injured just after the hour mark. Coral’s Man of the Match.
Wayne Rooney (5)
Red Devils skipper’s set-piece deliveries need to be better. Lost the ball an awful lot for someone playing in his favoured number 10 area. Shot straight at Schmeichel midway through second-half, but did set Lingard away for opener.
Anthony Martial (4)
Lost possession in some promising areas, didn’t really stretch Simpson. Subbed after three-quarters of the game for Rashford.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (6)
Swedish superstar nodded in late winner, getting the jump on Morgan who he had better luck against than Huth. Quiet until using strength and precision to head home the decisive moment. See the Ibrahimovic goal again:

Ander Herrera (5)
Came on for Carrick at the hour mark. Not enough action in midfield for Basque to show box-to-box ability.
Juan Mata (5)
Replaced injured Lingard after an hour. What future does Spaniard have at Old Trafford, though, with Mourinho previously selling him to Red Devils when both were at Chelsea? Mata subbed himself when picking up a knock for Mkhitaryan in stoppage time.
Marcus Rashford (5)
On for Martial for final quarter. Continues to show flashes of potential, earning a corner shortly after being introduced.
Marcos Rojo (N/A)
Argentine replaced returning Shaw for last 20 minutes.
Morgan Schneiderlin (N/A)
Replaced Rooney for the last three minutes and stoppage time.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan (N/A)
The most fleeting of cameos off bench for Mata, who picked up a knock.
Leicester Community Shield player ratings
Claudio Ranieri preferred to keep his new Foxes faces in reserve, keeping faith with his regulars that helped Leicester lift the Premier League title last term…
Kasper Schmeichel (6)
Got something on Lingard shot for opener, but left exposed by defence that was so reliable last season. Important the Dane signed a new deal at the King Power. Used hand and leg to deny Ibrahimovic at 1-1, but beaten by the Swede late on. Put himself about during stoppage time set-pieces.
Danny Simpson (6)
Kept Martial relatively harmless. Subbed after an hour for Hernandez.
Robert Huth (5.5)
Dealt well with challenge of Ibrahimovic. Flick-on gave Musa half a chance to grab late winner for Foxes. Subbed.
Wes Morgan (4.5)
Disappointing challenge failed to stop Lingard from scoring opener. Ibrahimovic outmuscled Jamaica international for winning goal.
Christian Fuchs (5)
Austrian left back always looks solid, though let others mark Lingard when he came infield for Man Utd goal. Subbed for Schlupp.
Riyad Mahrez (3)
Way below par based on last season’s performances. Could Algeria attacker have been a one season wonder? Marshalled well by Shaw.
Andy King (5)
Naughty challenge going through the back of Lingard resulted in a booking. Subbed just after the hour for Mendy.
Danny Drinkwater (5)
Quiet game for England international. Not able to shine without assurance of N’Golo Kante. Carrick offered more in the engine room playmaking stakes.
Marc Albrighton (5)
Fairly average display from wide player. Supported attacks and prepared to overload a flank down same side as Mahrez, but no direct end product. Subbed at half-time.
Shinji Okazaki (6)
Mixed display from Japan frontman. Curled early effort wide and headed another against bar. Lost possession in build-up to Lingard opener. Subbed at half-time.
Jamie Vardy (6.5)
Quiet in the first-half compared to last season, but always industrious and seized upon defensive error by Fellaini to clinically equalise 10 minutes after the break. Booked for late tackle on Mata.
Ahmed Musa (6.5)
Came on at half-time for Okazaki. Sought to stretch Man Utd by offering a direct, counter-attacking threat. Headed over bar when Huth flicked on a long throw late on. Looks a bright spark.
Demarai Gray (5.5)
Came on at half-time for Albrighton. Offered more than the man he replaced, but wasteful with a poor attempt straight at De Gea after good work by Musa on break at 1-1. Prepared to run at opponents, though needs to improve end product like so many wingers in their early 20s.
Nampalys Mendy (5)
Came on for King after an hour. Played much deeper than the man he replaced. Remains to be seen if anchorman can fill boots of departed compatriot Kante.
Luis Hernandez (5)
Came on for Simpson after an hour. A centre back by trade, his crossing wasn’t up to much.
Jeff Schlupp (N/A)
Only introduced for final 10 minutes, replacing Fuchs. Failed to cut out Valencia cross for Ibrahimovic winner.
Leonardo Ulloa (N/A)
Came on for Huth in dying moments.
