Most eyes will be on the Europa League final tonight, as Atletico Madrid face off against Olympique Marseille. But there’s plenty more football on the cards.
The Coral News Team have pulled together five picks on the evening’s action. As well as the UEL showpiece – they’ve got tips on a crucial League One play-off clash and a smattering of top-flight action from Norway and Sweden…
Atletico head into Wednesday night’s Europa League final against Marseille as favourites, and it’s easy to see why. The Spanish giants have won their previous two UEL finals, with the most recent a 3-0 rout of Athletic Bilbao in 2012. So they’ve got pedigree.
The current Atleti crop also boast the likes of Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann in their ranks. So they should prove too strong for a l’OM side who’ve won one of their last four in all competitions, conceding seven.
The Millers came away with a 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe United in the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final. Having won the two meetings prior to that, Rotherham should see off their visitors in normal time at the New York Stadium.
Paul Warne’s side have won eight of their last 10 in South Yorkshire, and face an Iron side who’ve won just four of the previous 15 on their travels.
in the reverse fixture last weekend, and they should do the double in this fixture.
Table-topping Hammarby play host to last season’s champions Malmo FF. But while the visitors were dominant last term, they’re currently stuck in the bottom half of the Allsvenskan, losing three of their last four matches.
That run is unlikely to improve against a Hammarby side who’ve been firing on all cylinders at home. They’ve won their first four games of the season at Tele2 Arena, chalking up an impressive 16 goals in the process.
In Norway’s top flight, in-form Valerenga are chasing down the European spots. They’re unbeaten in five league games, including a 6-1 victory at IK Start.
By contrast, Wednesday’s visitors Sandefjord sit second-bottom and have lost five on the trot in all competitions – without even scoring. Add in that Valerenga won 1-0
The Coral News Team have another pick from the Eliteserien to round out this fivesome. Sarpsborg are currently sitting in seventh, picking up five points from their last three games.
Visitors IK Start are sat rock bottom of the table, and haven’t won a top-flight away game in their last 28 attempts – dating back to May 2015. Add in that Sarpsborg have won the last four head-to-heads, and this should be a breeze for the hosts.
