Coral’s rumour reel
The Premier League makes its welcomed return to action this afternoon for the 2016/17 season after a summer of international football at Euro 2016 and the Olympics, but as the campaign kicks-off there are still transfer dealings to be sorted.
Middlesbrough make Pereira move
Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, many of Manchester United’s young players have had to move on, with Paddy McNair and Donald Love having recently departed permanently for Sunderland, and Andreas Pereira could be next.
It’s believed that Middlesbrough will make a Pereira move in the coming weeks in a bid to further boost their attacking options for their return to the Premier League this season, with the Red Devils reportedly willing to let their latest starlet leave on loan.
The 20-year-old would join the likes of Alvaro Negredo and Viktor Fischer in arriving at the Riverside this summer, after en encouraging transfer window to date from their boss Aitor Karanka, who spent three years as Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid.
Pereira, a Belgium-born Brazil Under-23 international, impressed during pre-season but Mourinho would like the young attacking midfielder to gain first-team experience on loan, something he would gain massively in the Northeast.
Spurs seek Silva signature
Over to the capital now, and Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham are keen on adding a new midfielder to their ranks, with Sporting Lisbon and Portugal international anchorman Adrien Silva high on their list of priorities.
The north Londoners have already added Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen to their squad in this transfer window, but are now keen on acquiring 27-year-old midfielder Silva, who is currently valued at around £13m by his Portuguese employers.
Aggressive central enforcer Silva was part of the victorious Portugal side that lifted Euro 2016 this summer, starring in the final against France, as well as netting eight times in 35 outings for Sporting last season.
The feisty Lions star also picked up 16 yellow cards and was sent off once in total for club and country last term, but it’s his forceful nature in the central areas that may sway Pochettino into seeking Silva’s signature.
Toffees target Abdennour capture
On the blue half of Merseyside, Ronald Koeman’s Everton are hoping to sign Valencia and Tunisia defender Aymen Abdennour, having already strengthened at the back with the recent capture of Wales international skipper Ashley Williams.
The Toffees are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for the centre back, which would see them end any interest in Lamine Kone, as Koeman looks to sure-up his rearguard following the big-money departure of John Stones to Manchester City.
Reports suggested Everton launched a £17m bid for Sunderland’s Kone recently, but have now switched their focus to Los Che defender Abdennour, with the 27-year-old having only signed for the Spanish club from Monaco last summer.
Abdennour has earned 44 caps for his country and possesses the strength and power capable of being a hit in the top flight, as Goodison Park gets ready for his potential arrival.
