Toothless Tromso no match for Europa League-savvy Tottenham
Andre Villas-Boas may be under pressure after his Tottenham side were crushed by Manchester City however he can find some relief in the Europa League with victory tonight at Tromso.
The visitors – who have already qualified for the last 32 – have conceded just one goal in the competition this season and look a good bet at Evens to win to nil.
There is a huge difference between playing a rampant Man City at Eastlands and Tromso, who have just been relegated from Norway’s top league, the Tippeligaen.
The hosts sacked manager Agnar Christensen in early October but assistant Steinar Nilsen was unable to keep Tromso up.
It’s been a strange season for the Norwegians as they would not have made it to the group stages of the Europa League were Besiktas – who had beaten them in the play-off round – not disqualified.
Bet on Spurs to win 1-0 at 5/1
Goals in the Tippeligaen have not been an issue for Nilsen’s side, with their tally of 41 as many as the third-placed side Haugesund.
Indeed they have scored more goals than five of the other sides in the 16-team league, however Europe has been a totally different kettle of fish.
They have only managed four shots on target in their four matches and have only scored one goal in Group K so far.
That goal came from Zdenek Ondrasek and if Tromso are to scupper the bet this evening then it is likely to be via the striker who scored eight times during the home side’s domestic campaign.
The 25-year-old Czech has scored 22 goals in two seasons with the Norwegian side and leads the line well.
Bet on Zdenek Ondrasek to score anytime at 11/4
His team have conceded six goals in the Europe League; of which Spurs scored three in September.
That figure is far from disastrous so it may not be wise to expect big win for the visitors, especially as Villas-Boas has left half of his troops at home.
Jermain Defoe leads the goalscoring charts in the competition with five but he won’t get a chance to increase that this evening.
Defoe, along with Paulinho and Kyle Walker, are among 10 first team players who have stayed in North London.
Youth players like Ryan Fredericks and Shaquile Coulthirst will be keen to impress but a low-scoring win looks most likely and 1-0 to Tottenham can be backed at 5/1.
Bet on Spurs to win to nil at Evens
This Spurs side have been stringent on their travels in this European campaign, conceding just one goal whilst scoring nine.
Whilst 1-0 is entirely possible, Spurs have actually won both of their away games by two goals to nil and a repeat of that scoreline is 24/5.
In three of their four matches – including both away games – they have been winning at half-time and full-time and they are 17/20 to add to that tally.
