Arsenal slip to third in FA Cup betting with trip to Old Trafford
FA Cup fifth round top two favourites, and the most successful clubs in the competition’s history, Arsenal and Manchester United face each other next in the quarter-finals, after respective wins over Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough and Simon Grayson’s Preston North End.
However, with the Premier League giants now to go head-to-head at Old Trafford, their outright odds have shifted, with title holders the Gunners new third-favourites with Coral at 10/3 and the Red Devils second in the betting at 11/4.
The duo have faced each other in the FA Cup 14 times before, with United edging Arsenal with seven wins to five, and will duel on the weekend of March 7th/8th.
Liverpool, who last lifted this trophy in 2006, now top the outright market at 7/4, after being drawn with Championship club Blackburn Rovers (66/1 outsiders) by former manager of both teams Roy Hodgson.
Rovers have knocked out Premier League opposition Swansea City and Stoke City on the previous two rounds, but the Reds will fancy their chances against them at Anfield. Blackburn can level their FA Cup head-to-head record with Liverpool, though, with an unlikely away victory.
But the title of giant-killers this campaign go to League One outfit Bradford City (33/1), who downed top-flight favourites Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, before seeing off Sunderland in front of their partisan Yorkshire crowd.
The Bantams have been given an easy draw by their standards, at home again to Championship mid-table team Reading (20/1). Steve Clarke’s Royals will be favourites for the match, but being underdogs hasn’t stopped Bradford before.
A West Midlands derby rounds up the FA Cup quarter-finals, as top-flight strugglers Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion lock horns at Villa Park, just four days after their Premier League encounter at the same ground.
They have both been priced at 12/1 to win the world’s oldest knockout football competition, but the Villans boast the head-to-head advantage, claiming nine wins to the Baggies’ three in this tournament. Villa won their last FA Cup meeting in 1998 4-0.
