In-form Rooney can help Hatters overhaul Shrews in League Two table
Luton Town (8/11) last lost a home game against League Two promotion rivals Shrewsbury Town (2/7) in 1965, so based on that history look great value at 9/5 with Coral for victory again.
The Hatters trail the visitors to Kenilworth Road by two points in the fourth tier table, yet the Shrews are 6/4 favourites despite winning one of their last six away outings across all competitions. A draw comes in at 9/4.
After enduring relegation from League One last term, Shropshire side Shrewsbury are looking to bounce straight back, and won the reverse fixture 2-0 back in August. A repeat scoreline in Bedfordshire is a 14/1 shot, with Coral also offering an alternative 5/1 matchday special on the Shrews victory and both teams netting with a maximum stake of £20.
Winger Jordan Clark did the damage in that previous meeting, grabbing both goals, and he is a 7/2 chance in the anytime market, as well as 20/1 to bag a brace or better again. Shrewsbury have failed to score in four of their last six coming into this encounter, though, which makes Luton all the more tempting.
In-form Hatters midfielder Luke Rooney, meanwhile, has seen his deal extended until the end of the season after netting in each of the last three home games, so is a tasty 10/3 anytime chance amid this purple patch.
As Luton have gone unbeaten at home in league action for four months (since September 6th), they do look really good value for victory at that 9/5 price.
Luton’s leading marksman Mark Cullen 5/4 in the same market, which is short considering he has netted once since hitting a hat-trick against Dagenham and Redbridge in mid-October.
The main danger for the Hatters, though, will be 15-league-goal strike partnership James Collins and Andy Mangan. Like Cullen, the former is a 5/4 anytime chance, but the latter is better at 7/4. They are also backed up by journeyman Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (2/1) and well-travelled veteran Scott Vernon (11/4).
As Luton have gone unbeaten in league action for the last four months at home, they really are great value at 9/5 for victory.
