Mario to leave Bayern or is it a no-Gotze?
Bayern Munich’s superstar Mario Gotze, who won the World Cup for Germany single-handed has sensationally said he would be open to a move abroad. The 22-year-old had been linked with a move to Manchester United, before moving to the Allianz Arena from Borussia Dortmund in 2013. His club are odds-on at 1/7 to win this season’s Bundesliga.
Coral compile a list of four clubs that could vie for his signature should he decide to leave, and discuss the likelihood that he will join them.
Never too far away from being linked with every major player in the world, Gotze could be a long-term replacement for Andres Iniesta, should Barca decide not to stick with their strategy of promoting from within. In a midfield trio behind Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar, it would prove to be formidable combination, especially if he can establish an understanding with Ivan Rakitic.
If James Rodriguez doesn’t produce, step forward Gotze, and club president Florentino Perez generally gets whatever player he wants. However, in light of rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo may want to move back to the Premier League, there may be a vacancy for another ‘Galactico’, sooner rather than later.
It could mean a change in system for Carlo Ancelotti, though he has found ways to fit in other players in his first term in charge. Gotze would also have compatriots Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira to help him settle in.
If they can get their Financial Fair Play situation sorted, City may be a possible contender, though any move would depend on the club securing regular Champions League football. Currently, City don’t have another German within their ranks, though he could fit in well alongside Samir Nasri and David Silva, supplying Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.
If boyhood mentor Jurgen Klopp stays in charge of Dortmund, a move back to his former club could well be a possibility, if they can sell Gotze a vision to challenge Bayern’s domestic dominance consistently, and mount consistent campaigns in Europe.
The Westfalenstadion outfit have a great core of young, talented Germans, and linking back up with the immense Ilkay Gundogan and Marco Reus, could be an opportunity too good to turn down.
