Newcastle, Boro, Sunderland in crazy Capital One Cup Northeast treble

Three of the big north-east clubs take precedent in this Capital One Cup treble, which features Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and Sunderland all to win in 90 minutes at a thrilling 3/1 price. Read on to find out why this is such a magnificent money-maker to liven up your week!

Newcastle v Northampton
The last time these two sides clashed was in the FA Cup, way back in the 1986/87 campaign as the Magpies recorded a 2-1 victory.

Steve McClaren’s side are overwhelmingly odds-on at 4/11 to record a positive result, and will be encouraged after a fantastic performance at Old Trafford last time out, as they held Manchester United to a goalless draw. They should easily have enough to overcome a team three tiers below them in the football league.

Burton v Middlesbrough
Aitor Karanka’s side are odds-on at 19/20 to beat a team one division below them, and have performed well in the Championship so far this season. In the last round Boro beat Oldham, again on the road, in a terrific 3-1 victory, as the Teesside team dominated from start to finish, with Uruguayan attacker Christian Stuani bagging a brace.

Simply put, the visitors have far too much for their Staffordshire counterparts and can ease comfortably into the next round with a comprehensive win.

Sunderland v Exeter
The last time the Black Cats took on this West Country side, they emerged comfortable 5-2 winners, which was also in the League Cup. In striker Jermain Defoe, they have a player who has lit up the competition with nine goals in 18 games throughout his career, equating to a ratio of one strike every two matches.

Having also got on the scoresheet last time out, he will have too much savvy for the visitors’ defence and can be expected to play a huge part in securing the win for Dick Advocaat’s side and send them through to the next round of the competition.
