Portugal’s most successful teams Porto and Benfica meet
Between them, Porto (27) and Benfica (33) have won 60 Primeira Liga titles in history, making them the two most successful Portuguese clubs, and this O Classico derby promises to be a close contest.
It is the home side, though, who have got the better of the capital club in history and recently, holding an 89-85 record from their 230 battles, and just losing one of their last nine (winning six) against them.
Porto, therefore, go into this encounter as odds-on 5/6 favourites with Coral for victory again. Both sides have scored in six of their last seven meetings, so take more enticing odds of 15/4 for the two teams to be on target and the Dragons win once more.
It is Benfica, however, who currently top the table, three points ahead of their upcoming second-placed rivals after 12 games, and they are tempting 3/1 chances to claim all three points.
From their total head-to-heads in all competitions, a 1-1 draw is the most common result (14 times), and odds of 5/2 are on offer for a share of the spoils again, or 6/1 for that repeat scoreline.
For Porto’s boss Julen Lopetegui, he will be hoping his star striker, Colombian Jackson Martinez, can carry on his superb scoring run of seven in his last seven games. The English Premier League-linked player is a tempting 7/5 shout in the anytime market and 7/2 to net last, as he did in this fixture last term.
The title-holding visitors, meanwhile, will be hoping Brazilian youngster Anderson Talisca can add to his terrific league tally of eight goals in the league this season. Attacker Talisca is 12/5 to score anytime, and 13/2 to hit home first.
Enzo Perez also netted in this fixture last campaign for the Eagles, and he is 9/2 in the anytime market. Punters may fancy putting money on former Manchester United flop and winger Bebe, who is priced at 10/3.
Another player who failed to shine in England but impressing in his homeland is Porto’s Ricardo Quaresma, who was once on loan at Chelsea. The Portugal international is 23/10 to net anytime.
