Anyone want a Joey? Barton in demand as clubs circle

Having been released by QPR, Joey Barton has become the subject of much attention. Here at Coral, we bring you all the transfer news as it happens, though ultimately, you’ll want to know the latest odds that the traders are offering on where in-demand players are going.

With as many as 15 clubs linked to the combative midfielder, we review which ones will realistically vie for his signature.

Leeds United: 5/2
Should he make the move the West Yorkshire club, who are the favourites with Coral, the 32-year-old could well be the leader that the Elland Road side have been missing.

Leeds fans like passionate players who give everything, and although Barton sometimes takes that a bit too far, there is no doubt his presence in the Whites midfield and dressing room, would be highly valued.

The last time he played in the Championship, he was a vital component in Newcastle United’s automatic promotion and his experience could well be the decisive factor for Leeds next term.

Watford: 7/1
A move to one of the Premier League new boys, would save the midfielder from having to leave London and his top flight experience would be highly valued by the Hornets, who would get a bit more sting in their team.

Having already signed Austrian centre back Sebastian Prodl, the addition of Barton would be a sign that the team is forming a particularly strong spine.

Brentford: 10/1
Perhaps unlucky to miss out on Championship promotion, should the south London side be able to convince Barton to join, it may help them persuade a clutch of their best players to stay, with playmaker Jota linked to a number of Premier League clubs.

Marseille: 12/1
Having played for the French outfit before, this could be a possibility. Under Marcelo Bielsa, the desirable coastal side finished fourth in Ligue 1 this season and will be looking to push on next term. It shouldn’t take too long for Barton to settle back in, and his presence could be desirable against teams in the Europa League.

Aston Villa: 16/1
Definitely a Tim Sherwood type of player, it would come as no surprise if Villa came in for his signature. A clear lack of grit was noticeable in the team’s midfield during their 4-0 FA Cup final loss to Arsenal and Barton is sure to contribute this.
