Champions League-chasing Spurs to overcome struggling Cardiff

Tottenham have kept four clean sheets and defeated Cardiff City three times in their last four head-to-heads, and you can back them at 6/5 to get a win to nil at White Hart Lane.

Both sides go into this fixture aiming for victory for different reasons. Spurs are clinging on to hope of a Champions League place at the end of the season (4/1), as they currently trail fourth-placed Manchester City – who have a game in hand – by seven points.

At the other end of the table, Cardiff languish down in 19th and three points away from safety. It will be a tough ask for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to overcome a team with big ambitions, and the stats don’t back up their cause either.

The Bluebirds have lost eight of their last 11 Premier League games, including the most recent 4-0 home thrashing by Hull City, and it is fair to say the club lack confidence. They have also scored in only one of their last five league matches and their odds of 8/1 to win this time are not worth a punt.

Manager Solskjaer, however, does know a thing or two about netting a few goals against the north Londoners. He managed to score seven times during his Manchester United playing career in the league against Spurs – his joint-best tally against a club in the English top-flight.

So can the Norwegian inspire his forwards Fraizer Campbell and Kenwyne Jones (both 3/1 to score anytime) to cause an upset and get a much-needed victory?

Craig Bellamy’s return from a three-match suspension will also put Cardiff in better stead, but they face a Spurs side who have won seven of their last 11 in the league. Tim Sherwood’s side are odds-on at 4/11 for victory.

In-form striker Emmanuel Adebayor – eight in last 11 league games – will be looking to get in on the goals, and can be backed at 8/13 to score anytime or 2/1 to bag a brace or more.

A last minute winner from Paulinho in the reverse fixture was enough for Spurs to get the three points that day, and it is very hard to see past them getting a more comprehensive victory here.
