Chelsea target Nathan confirms Blues signing with Instagram post

Premier League champions Chelsea had previously outlined Brazilian wonderkid Nathan as a top transfer target this summer, and the Blues have now secured his acquisition at Stamford Bridge, following a post on the player’s Instagram account and after he passed a medical.

The Samba starlet reportedly arrived in London earlier this year to finalise a £4.5m move from Brazil to London, and his departure from current employers Atletico Paranaense was confirmed by the Blues.

Talented prospect Nathan immediately grabbed the attention of many top European clubs with his dazzling displays at the 2013 Under-17 World Cup, but it’s top-flight victors Chelsea who have secured his services.

The 19-year-old struck a sublime five goals in five outings at the Under-17 competition two years ago and was voted as part of the team of the tournament, adding to his already growing reputation in world football, having been dubbed Brazil’s most promising talent since Neymar.

Nathan joins a long list of fellow countrymen, with Jose Mourinho’s squad already boasting no less than six Brazilians, including regular senior starters Oscar, Willian and Ramires.

Likened to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho in style, sought-after Nathan will provide Chelsea with a new dimension of skill and astute attacking threat, despite his young age. Although, it is also reported that the attacking midfielder may have to wait on a work permit, following a tightening of restrictions on players who are yet to earn a senior international cap.

News of Nathan’s arrival may anger some of the club’s current crop of talented youngsters, with the Under-19 team having recently secured an incredible UEFA Youth League triumph, subsequently staking a claim for more regular first-team action.

Youth attackers such as Dominic Solanke, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Under-19 skipper Izzy Brown are just a few starlets knocking on the senior set-up door but, with Mourinho having appeared to have landed Brazilian Nathan, they may face a prolonged wait for further top-flight appearances.

Despite his tender age, the highly-rated Brazilian, who has also been capped at Under-21 level, was previously embroiled in a contract dispute with his club Paranaense, an argument which actually helped Chelsea in their efforts to land his signature.

It is believed that Mourinho is keen to embed this newest Samba starlet into his first-team in the near future, but a possible loan spell is always an option before then. The Premier League champions clinched a dominant title triumph, and are 13/8 favourites to retain the crown next season.
