Chelsea eyeing Augsburg and Ghana left back Baba Rahman?
According to reports, Premier League champions Chelsea (13/8 with Coral to retain that title in 2015/16) are targeting Ghana international Baba Rahman, with the 20-year-old Augsburg star said to have captured the attention of Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
The title celebrations have barely finished at Stamford Bridge, yet Mourinho appears to have already turned his attentions to refreshing the ranks for next term’s challenge to retain the trophy.
Speaking after Chelsea paraded their Premier League crown, Mourinho said: “I always believe if you are not better than you were the season before, normally you don’t retain the title, so if we want to win the title next year, and obviously we want to do that, we have to be better.
“I have to be better, these players have to be better and maybe our squad needs some fresh blood to put the current squad under a bit of pressure,” added the Portuguese coach.
Top of Chelsea’s priorities seems to be upgrading their options at left back, with the Blues believed to be ready to bid for 11-capped Black Stars defender Rahman, whose romps down the wing have resulted in five assists for Bundesliga outfit Augsburg.
Rampant Rahman impressed in his first season with the Bavarian club, making 31 appearances, and duly caught the attention of Europe’s elite.

Renowned for his exuberance, power and energy, Rahman would present an interesting, but slightly raw, alternative to solid, if unspectacular first choice left back Cesar Azpilicueta and experienced back-up option Filipe Luis.
Luis was prised from Atletico Madrid’s grasp last summer along with sharpshooter Diego Costa, but has struggled to establish himself in Mourinho’s ideal XI, and is linked with a move back to his former club in the summer.
As adaptable Azpilicueta may be needed to cover the opposite defensive flank, the Stamford Bridge side could certainly do with adding younger legs to their ageing rearguard if they are to challenge in the future as well as present.
Chelsea are rumoured to have ramped up their interest in Rahman recently, and are said to have taken the significant step of contacting ex-Blues and current Ghana coach Avram Grant about the Tamale-born talent.
Augsburg are expected to demand as much as £20m for the starlet, who seems to fit Chelsea’s recent transfer profile, as the Blues are expected to complement their already strong core with more youth this summer.
