Coral’s Rumour Reel: Leicester Loic Remy plus Mad swap

Matt Haynes | January 30, 2016

With few days of the January transfer window remaining, Leciester City are hoping to considerably strengthen before it closes to maintain their incredible run in the Premier League for the rest of the season.

Ranieri reeling in Remy

The Foxes latest target appears to be Chelsea striker Loic Remy, who is understood to be the subject of an £11.5m move. Having been first linked with Crystal Palace and latterly Newcastle United in this transfer window, high-flying Leicester appear to be the latest suitors.

Remy would be a welcome addition to the East Midlands outfit and give somewhat of a reprieve to Jamie Vardy in attack, being more than capable of finding the net. Initially Leicester wanted a loan deal, though the improved offer is thought to have been accepted and this will be a club record for the Foxes.

The club are also apparently tracking AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang, however, the Italian side have rejected an approach, insisting that the Frenchman is not for sale.

Cost-effective?

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is apparently keen on swapping Jackson Martinez with Chelsea’s Diego Costa, who only moved to Stamford Bridge from Atleti in the summer of 2014 prior to the World Cup.

Costa has struggled for form this season at the Blues, though Simeone, who arguably got the best out of him is thought to be keen to bring him back to the Vicente Calderon, with the club in contention to win their second La Liga title in three years.

Colombian forward Martinez could be more effective at Chelsea, with the 29-year-old failing to make any real impact in Spain following his move from Porto last summer and could offer a more efficient focal point in attack.

Swans blowing a Gayle

South Wales outfit Swansea seem as persistent as ever in their pursuit of Eagles striker Dwight Gayle and have offered £7m for the player’s signature. The club need more firepower up front to increase their chances of staying in the Premier League, so a move could well happen imminently.
