Derby draw appealing for Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool

Four of the last five Merseyside derbies, and the previous two at Goodison Park, have been draws. A share of the spoils for Everton and Liverpool is a 9/4 chance with Coral.

Brendan Rodgers’ Reds go into this battle across Stanley Park from Anfield having won six of their last seven away games in all competitions, and are 12 points better off in the Premier League than the Toffees. Liverpool are thus 5/4 favourites for victory at Goodison.

Roberto Martinez’s men are without a home win since before Christmas, meanwhile, and that explains their 12/5 price for three points on derby day. Everton did make a late move in the winter window, bringing in out-of-favour Spurs winger Aaron Lennon on loan.

Romelu Lukaku has three in his last five across all competitions, and he bagged brace on the last derby day at Goodison. The big Belgian frontman is a 6/4 anytime scorer chance here. Lukaku also features in an enhanced 11/2 wincast to be on target and the Toffees to triumph. Punters please note there is a maximum stake of £20 on this bet.

Compatriot Kevin Mirallas has plenty of speculation surrounding his long-term future, but is also on that got goals before in this fixture list. He is a tasty 10/3 to net again, which is the same price as Scotland forward Steven Naismith.

For Liverpool, it’s once again all about the SAS, with top scorer Raheem Sterling replacing the departed Luis Suarez from last term. The Jamaican-born attacker, who has netted three of the Reds’ last five goals in all competitions, is an alternative wincast special at a fabulous 4/1, with customers able to stake a maximum of £20.

Daniel Sturridge, meanwhile, is back from a lengthy lay-off, and scored home and away against Everton last term. He is short at 5/4 in the anytime market as a result and after netting on his comeback as a substitute at home to West Ham United. Rodgers may start Sturridge on derby day, so it’s worth considering him at 5/1 to grab the opener.

Kop idol Steven Gerrard will turn out for the final time in this feisty fixture before moving to MLS franchise LA Galaxy this summer. He has hit hat-tricks to hurt the Toffees before, but odds for that happening again are fanciful at 50/1. Gerrard, who is the Reds’ designated penalty taker, is more realistic at 11/4 in the anytime market because of his dead ball accuracy.

A score draw appeals here, especially as Everton have picked up four points from the last six available, and the exact result being 1-1 as the reverse fixture ended up, is an 11/2 shout.
