Everton track Dann as Palace seek finance for Cabaye deal

Everton (11/4 chances with Coral for a Premier League top six finish) have reportedly made an £8m offer for Crystal Palace centre back Scott Dann ahead of the new season.

However, the Eagles, who ended last term one place and a point above the Toffees by coming 10th (and are 5/2 to finish there or higher again), are apparently wanting almost double that.

Palace will be certainly hoping to build on from their success last season rather than selling all their stars, so are unlikely to sell Dann unless for a huge fee, although they may need finances as they close in on a deal for Yohan Cabaye.

The former Newcastle United playmaker has become disillusioned with life back in his home country with French champions PSG, after not getting enough game time, and is reportedly set to sign for up to £13m.

Everton, though, will be hoping to fill the void left by their former long-term star Sylvain Distin, who has now joined Premier League new boys Bournemouth after his contract ran out.

Roberto Martinez now only has established centre backs Phil Jagielka and John Stones on his books currently, following the release of Antolin Alcaraz too, and will be desperate to bring in new recruits.

If former Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers star Dann were to join the Toffees, he would be returning to city where he was born, although he was apparently a former Liverpool fan. But that hasn’t stopped others in the past playing for either club.

In Dann, Everton would get an aerial presence and a consistent performer, who rarely gets injured, and can also get you the odd goal.

The 28-year-old featured in 34 Premier League matches last term for the Eagles, and was a key part in their astonishing end-of-season success under new boss Alan Pardew.
