Not Falcao or Martinez, but Newcastle should target Colombian
Links with Colombian players to the Premier League have been fairly common in the past 12 months, with strikers Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez at the forefront of any lists, alongside Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin.
Attempts to sign any of this trio have so far failed, but offers for another Colombian striker playing at Hertha Berlin may prove far more fruitful.
West Brom, Hull and Stoke have been among the clubs previously linked with Adrian Ramos, but an asking price in the region of £7m put off any concrete offers.
However, the fact he currently tops the Bundesliga goal charts with 11 alongside Robert Lewandowski, may prove that although Ramos is a slow bloomer, he is worth a Premier League opportunity.
Newcastle are one team not loaded with top-level strikers and given that they have only scored twice on the counter attack this season, the 27-year-old may prove a great addition to their ranks.
With little to play for this season, Newcastle can concentrate on attempting to make up their six-point deficit on the Champions League qualification places and they can be backed at 40/1 in the Premier League betting to finish in the top four.
Ramos’ average of three dribbles per game show that he can make his own chances and his goals this season have come in a variety of ways, with four with his right foot, four with his head and three with his left foot.
Throw in the fact that Hertha have Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who has scored nine goals on loan at Hamburg, to return and potentially replace Ramos and they may be more prepared to cash in.
Previous comments from Ramos that he would jump at the chance to test himself in the Premier League would also suggest that an offer from Newcastle or anyone else has a greater chance of a positive outcome.
