Five Eredivisie stars Premier League clubs should target this window

We look at Holland’s hottest transfer prospects
There’s a thrilling title race underway in this season’s Eredivisie, with PSV Eindhoven currently leading Ajax by just two points at the summit.
But while it’s hard to see past those two sides in the title race, there are plenty of quality players across the division.
With Premier League managers currently looking to snap up some savvy January signings, we take a look at five likely targets from the Dutch top-flight…
Fran Sol (CF, Willem II)
The Real Madrid youth product found first-team opportunities tough to find with Los Blancos, as with Villarreal – who snapped him up in 2014. But a move to Willem II in 2016 has seen the Spaniard flourish in spectacular style.
A ruthless finisher, he’s notched 20 times in 17 games this season – including a memorable late equaliser against Feyenoord. That’s all in spite of Willem II’s general mediocrity, with the club sat 12th in the Eredivisie.
While his all-round game isn’t exceptional, the 26-year-old can add a combative streak which would make him a good fit for the Prem. Recently linked with the likes of Fulham and Huddersfield Town, he certainly has the potential to be a difference-maker for a side battling against the drop.
Hirving Lozano (RW, PSV Eindhoven)
Fans of Tottenham Hotspur will already know what the Mexican is capable of. He netted in an outstanding individual display as PSV drew 2-2 with Spurs in the Champions League group stage.
A lightning-quick winger, the 23-year-old is absolutely deadly cutting inside from either flank. Also a fine finisher, he’s already on 15 in all competitions for the season, and links up nicely with striker Luuk de Jong.
While the Eindhoven outfit have managed to fend off interest so far, it’s becoming a tougher ask. Especially so after the Mexican’s impressive World Cup displays – including a winner against Germany.
As it stands, Transfermarkt.co.uk estimate his value around the £40m mark.
Brandley Kuwas (RW, Heracles Almelo)
Another winger, though one likely to be available at a fraction of Lozano’s cost. That’s largely because the Curacao international’s contract expires this summer, with a move from Heracles looking increasingly likely.
The 26-year-old is currently on course to hit 10 assists for the third Eredivisie season on a row. And his six league goals so far this term are marks his joint-best return in the top flight.
Leeds United were strongly linked with the Heracles ace last summer, but didn’t get a deal over the line. However, the Championship leaders – and no doubt a few Premier League clubs – could be eyeing up the situation again this month.
Nicolas Tagliafico (LB, Ajax)
With Nacho Monreal yet to sign a contract extension, and question marks over Sead Kolasinac’s displays, it’s no surprise to see Arsenal linked with additions at left-back.
Chief amongst them has been Ajax’s Tagliafico, and on paper the 26-year-old has all the attributes. A tricky full-back who also offers real physicality, he can be prone to a bit of rashness, but would add much needed steel to the Gunners’ backline.
There’s also no doubting he has the experience to handle the packed, high-pressure campaigns the Gunners tend to have. He hardly missed a minute in 2017, captaining former club Independiente to glory in the Copa Sudamericana.
Denzel Dumfries (RB, PSV Eindhoven)
PSV paid a shade over £5m to snap the defender up from Heerenveen last summer, and it’s already looking like a bargain deal.
The league’s most imposing full-back, bruising Dumfries has silenced the division’s top strikers throughout this campaign. He’s started in all 17 of PSV’s league games so far. Rood-witten have conceded just eight goals in the process.
With Diogo Dalot still short of 20-years-old and Antonio Valencia coming to the end of his career, Manchester United could be a good fit for the powerhouse full-back.
