Five impressive debuts from the 2015/16 Premier League opening weekend

In recent years, Premier League debutants have fared well and people will remember Michu’s brace for Swansea a couple of seasons ago, while Eric Dier surprised everyone netting the winner for Spurs against West Ham 12 months ago.

As a result, we take a look at five of the best debuts of the opening weekend on the 2015/16 Premier League season. Read on and see if your agree with our selection!

Yohan Cabaye
The dynamic Frenchman marked a sensational return to the Premier League with a strike for Crystal Palace and gave us a sign of things to come. Reunited with Alan Pardew, this time at the Eagles, the goalscoring midfielder can have a huge impact on the club’s season and had a starring role as Palace earned a well-deserved 3-1 victory away at Norwich City.

Andre Ayew
Bagged a goal for the Swans at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, he was in the right place at the right time in the area to fire in a rebound, though he still had work to do, as he picked his spot to lift the ball over Thibaut Courtois. The Ghanaian can play a starring role for the south Wales side this term, though there shouldn’t be an over-reliance on him.

Dimitri Payet
A class act, the former Marseille man demonstrated just how good he was in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Arsenal. The Hammers have a top quality player on their hands here and his free-kick delivery for Cheikhou Kouyate’s opener was executed to perfection. He also topped the assist charts last term for Europe’s top five leagues having created 135 chances and is now already one from one in the Premier League.

Micah Richards
Tim Sherwood’s decision to take a punt on the once regular England international could turn out to be a masterstroke. As could his decision to make him captain and move him back into centre half. Richards looked assured against Bournemouth’s lively striker Callum Wilson in his teams’ 1-0 win and could rejuvenate the club’s rearguard.

Georginio Wijnaldum
Newcastle United, 16/1 for a top six finish, may just have found themselves a real gem. The talented Dutch midfielder is set to become a big part of the Netherlands national team and it easy to see why. Having had a fruitful pre-season with the Magpies in which he scored, he took his goal against Southampton very well in the club’s 2-2 draw.
